A RAM shortage is causing a crisis in the motherboard industry, with major Taiwanese manufacturers experiencing sharp shipment declines.
Asus and MSI slash shipment targets
Asus lowered its shipment target in late 2025 and shipped only 5 million motherboards in the first half of 2026, compared to a target of 10 million. MSI's 2026 motherboard shipments are estimated at 8.4 million, down from 11 million.

The four largest Taiwanese motherboard makers have all seen significant drops in shipments due to the memory shortage.
Digitimes, PC Gamer, and TechRadar have reported on the situation, but the exact timeline for recovery remains unclear.
