Major motherboard manufacturers ASUS, GIGABYTE, and MSI plan to raise prices by September. This shift directly impacts builders who rely on custom components for their PC gaming rigs. Rising costs for raw materials force these vendors to adjust their pricing strategies. Buyers should expect higher prices for new motherboards in the coming months.
PCB and copper costs drive major vendors to adjust pricing strategies
The price hikes stem from increased expenses for essential hardware components. Vendors cite rising costs for PCB substrates, copper, ceramic capacitors, and power semiconductors as the primary drivers. PCB substrate prices reportedly increased by 50 percent year-over-year in 2026. These material costs make it difficult for manufacturers to maintain previous price points.
Market demand has also shifted, affecting how vendors manage their inventory. Demand for custom-built PCs has decreased since the second half of 2025. This drop in demand follows memory semiconductor price increases that affected the broader market. MSI is reportedly cutting its entry-level graphics card lineup by 30 percent. The company may also reduce production of budget motherboards to align with lower demand.
We looked at ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, ASRock Motherboard Shipments in our earlier Asus, gigabyte, msi coverage. The industry saw significant shipment declines in 2026 as a result of these market forces. The planned price increases reflect the combined pressure of higher component costs and reduced consumer demand. Builders will need to adjust their budgets for upcoming hardware purchases.
