Microsoft updates minimum hardware thresholds for the block-building game

The update targets the Java Edition of the block-building game. Microsoft now demands a 64-bit operating system and significantly more memory. The company is also moving the game engine away from OpenGL toward Vulkan for better graphics support.

New minimum specs require 10 64-bit, macOS 12, or 64-bit. You need an Core i3-10100, 3 3100, Qualcomm Snapdragon X, or Apple M1 processor. The GPU floor sits at GTX 950, AMD RX 460, Intel Arc A310, or Intel i5-6400 integrated graphics.

Microsoft recommends 16GB of RAM for smooth performance, up from the previous 4GB. Minimum RAM is now 8GB for discrete GPUs and 12GB for integrated graphics. Recommended CPUs include the Intel Core i5-12400, AMD Ryzen 5 5600, or Apple M2 Pro. Recommended GPUs are the Nvidia RTX 2060, AMD RX 5600 XT, or Intel Arc A580.

Microsoft stated that these updated requirements do not block current players immediately. The company warned that below-spec hardware may struggle or fail to launch in the future. This transition ensures the game runs reliably as it adopts newer graphics technologies.
