LG monitors are silently installing a software package called LG Monitor App Installer through Windows Update. This behavior occurs without user consent or any visible prompts during the installation process. Users may find this software on their systems after a routine Windows update cycle. The automatic installation process has sparked concerns regarding user control and privacy for monitor owners.

Software pushes paid subscriptions without explicit user approval
The software serves as a distribution channel for third-party applications, specifically McAfee antivirus subscriptions. It offers a 30-day free trial that automatically converts into a paid subscription if the user does not cancel. Gamers Nexus tested an LG UltraGear 34GX900A-B and observed McAfee promotions appearing during 31 out of 32 consecutive system boots. The promotional approach directs unwanted offers to users who did not explicitly request the software.
The issue is not limited to new hardware models. Reports indicate that older monitors are also affected by this silent installation mechanism. An LG UltraFine 32UN880-B, which was purchased three years ago, exhibited the same behavior when connected to a Windows system. User complaints regarding this specific installer have been documented since at least 2024, suggesting a long-standing issue.
This behavior mirrors practices used by other hardware vendors for their proprietary software suites. Dell employs a similar mechanism to install the Alienware Command Center on its gaming laptops. However, Dell provides users with a way to block these installations using Windows Group Policy settings. LG has not publicly confirmed whether a method to block the Monitor App Installer is available.
LG monitors continue to install the LG Monitor App Installer via Windows Update without explicit user approval. The software pushes McAfee subscriptions through automatic trials that convert to paid plans. This practice affects both recent and older LG monitor models across Windows systems.
