Microsoft Copilot Cowork Now Generally Available with Usage-Based Billing

Microsoft's Copilot Cowork is now generally available worldwide for Microsoft 365 Copilot customers. The feature became the fastest-growing in the history of Microsoft's Frontier program.

Copilot Cowork runs on Anthropic models, including Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 4.6, and now also supports GPT-5.5 for Frontier customers. A new fine-tuned model called Cowork 1 is coming in the next few weeks.

Usage-based billing starts today at $0.01 per Copilot Credit. Microsoft claims that Copilot Cowork will be 30% to 40% cheaper on average with its Microsoft 365 connector compared to Claude Cowork.

Frontier customers who used Cowork between March 30 and June 16 will not be billed until July 1, 2026. We touched on Microsoft Shifts GitHub Copilot to Usage-Based in our earlier Microsoft coverage.
