Philips Hue adds a new 'Sports Live' feature designed to sync smart lighting with live sports broadcasts. The update targets fans who want their home environment to react in real time during major tournaments like the 2026 World Cup. The update shifts the lighting control from basic timers to real-time synchronization with live sports events.

New software syncs smart bulbs with live match moments like goals and penalties
The feature requires at least one color-capable Philips Hue light bulb to function properly. Standard white bulbs do not trigger any lighting effects when a match occurs. Users must access the setup process through the main Philips Hue app and navigate to the 'Sync' tab. The configuration takes approximately five to ten minutes to complete.
Once configured, the system reacts to specific in-game moments such as goals, referee cards, penalties, and post-match celebrations. The app allows users to select their preferred team, choose which room receives the lighting changes, and pick exact game events to trigger animations. A latency adjustment setting lets owners delay light reactions to match the broadcast timeline.
Samsung SmartThings integration is available but not required for this feature. The system operates independently through the Hue app without needing external smart home platforms. Owners can now adjust their living spaces to reflect stadium atmosphere during live matches.
