Windows 11 August Patch Fixes 236 Security Vulnerabilities

Microsoft released its August Patch Tuesday update for Windows 11, fixing a significant number of security vulnerabilities and adding practical usability features. File Explorer gains tab support and search improvements

The patch targets Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, fixing 236 specific security vulnerabilities in those versions. Microsoft also addressed a total of 421 security issues across all supported products in this cycle. Office received the highest number of fixes with 98 vulnerabilities resolved. File Explorer now displays file sizes in megabytes (MB) and gigabytes (GB) for clearer storage tracking. Users can open folders in new tabs by clicking the middle mouse button, which streamlines multitasking. Windows Search improvements allow users to find files with two-character names, resolving previous search limitations. Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security now supports compatible external fingerprint readers for added authentication options.

Voice Access gained a new Voice Isolation feature to reduce background noise during voice commands. The update applies to Windows 11 23H2 via update KB5120240 and to Windows 11 26H1 via update KB5121000.
