Subnautica 2 Early Access Hits 460K Steam Players, Tops AAA Games

Subnautica 2 launched in early access and quickly drew a massive audience on Steam. Within an hour of release, the game reached 460,000 peak concurrent players. That number placed it third on Steam's most played games chart.

Early access launch surpasses major titles

The early access launch surpassed the peak player counts of several high-profile titles. It exceeded Crimson Desert's 276,000 peak and Resident Evil Requiem's 344,000 peak. For comparison, the original Subnautica peaked at 51,156 players eight years ago. The game also accumulated over 5 million wishlists before launch.

Subnautica 2 is available on Xbox Game Pass and Steam. It is priced at 29.99 USD (about $29.99).

Developer Unknown Worlds has had a leadership dispute with publisher Krafton. The game's strong early access debut comes despite that internal conflict. Steam data confirms the player count figures.
