Samsung has obtained a court injunction that limits the scope of an impending strike at its facilities in South Korea. The Suwon District Court issued the order on May 18, 2026, barring the union from occupying facilities or blocking workers from entering.
Court orders union to avoid facility occupation
The ruling requires staffing levels to remain at normal levels to ensure safety, prevent facility damage, and maintain product quality. If the union breaches the order, it will face a fine of 100 million KRW (about $0.07) per day. Talks between Samsung and the union have resumed, with a union representative stating they would "engage seriously" in negotiations.
The strike could cost Samsung up to 4 trillion won in revenue. It remains unclear how many of the 45,000 expected strikers are affected by the court ruling should the strike proceed.
