Radxa has launched the Dragon Q8B, a mini motherboard powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 chip. This board targets developers and hobbyists who need a compact, high-performance platform for edge computing, NAS, or desktop applications.

Compact board targets edge computing and NAS

The Dragon Q8B measures just 100mm by 75mm, making it one of the smallest Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 boards available. It was unveiled at a joint developer event in Shenzhen on May 30, alongside the Dragon Q5E single-board computer.

Key specs include an 8-core Kryo CPU with four cores at 3.0 GHz and four at 2.4 GHz, an Adreno 690 GPU, and up to 29 TOPS of AI performance. The board supports up to 32GB of LPDDR4X memory on a 128-bit bus running at 4266 MT/s.

Storage options are generous: two M.2 2280 slots (PCIe 3.0 x4 and x2), a UFS 3.1 module interface, and a microSD card slot. Networking features dual 2.5GbE RJ45 ports and an M.2 2230 slot for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth modules, with optional Wi-Fi 7 support.

Connectivity includes two USB 3.2 Gen 2-C ports with DP Alt Mode (4K@120), two USB 3.2 Gen 2-A ports, two USB 2.0-A ports, and an HDMI 2.1 output. A 40-pin color GPIO header provides UART, I2C, and SPI interfaces, plus PCIe FPC, audio, RTC, and fan connectors.

Pre-orders in China start at 799 CNY (about $118) for the 4GB model, with shipping from July 31. Other configurations include 8GB for 1199 CNY ($177), 16GB for 2099 CNY ($310), and 32GB for 3999 CNY ($590). Power is supplied via USB-C PD, with a recommended 60W adapter.

The board supports multiple operating systems: Radxa OS, Ubuntu, Armbian, Arch , and Windows 11 on Arm. Deepin OS has also demonstrated compatibility. Radxa previewed two NAS systems with Feiniu: the DragonStation with 6 NVMe slots and 10GbE, and the 4-bay DragonBay, launching later this year.
