One of the standout features of the X3 is its ability to support drives with a maximum capacity of 2 petabytes per unit. Despite this massive storage potential, the controller maintains a total power draw of just 7 Watts, achieving an impressive efficiency rating of 4 GB/s per watt according to Phison's claims.
In addition to the high-performance X3, Phison also introduced the E37T SSD, a DRAM-less PCIe 5.0 controller optimized for power efficiency. The E37T delivers approximately 14.9 GB/s while consuming only 4.5 Watts, which is 2.5 Watts less than its flagship counterpart, the E28 controller.
The X3 controller will begin sampling to customers in December, with volume shipping expected by mid-2027. Meanwhile, drives based on the E37T are set to start shipping this year, offering a more immediate solution for systems requiring efficient PCIe 5.0 storage options.
