OpenAI Launches Daybreak Cybersecurity Initiative for Developers

OpenAI has announced Daybreak, a new cybersecurity initiative designed to help defenders find, validate, and fix software vulnerabilities earlier in the development process.

Daybreak uses frontier models and Codex for automated security tasks.

Daybreak uses frontier models and Codex as an agentic execution layer. It supports secure code review, threat modeling, patch validation, dependency risk analysis, and detection and remediation guidance. According to OpenAI, when given access to the whole repository, Daybreak can prioritize high-impact issues and reduce analysis time from hours to minutes.

OpenAI is working with Cloudflare, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Oracle, Zscaler, Akamai, and Fortinet on the Daybreak initiative.

It remains unclear whether OpenAI will continue to offer Codex Security separately or combine it under the Daybreak umbrella.
