Sony may be pulling back on PC ports for its biggest single-player games. New marketing materials spotted this week carry an "Only on PS5" label, hinting at a shift in strategy. The change comes as fans and analysts debate the future of PlayStation exclusives on PC.

New marketing materials hint at strategy shift

The branding appeared in promotional videos for Sony's new gaming monitor and accessories. Observers noticed the disclaimer during a showcase for the 27-inch display. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reports that PlayStation Studios head Herman Hulst communicated a strategy change to employees. According to Schreier, some solo titles will likely remain console-exclusive.

Multiplayer live-service games are expected to continue as cross-platform releases. But single-player projects like "Saros" and "Marvel's Wolverine" may skip PC entirely. The move would reverse Sony's recent push to bring former exclusives to Steam.

Sony has not confirmed any policy change

Sony previously used an "Only on PlayStation" label on game boxes. That branding disappeared from "Ghost of Tsushima" and "Horizon Zero Dawn" before those games received PC ports. The return of similar wording suggests a renewed focus on console exclusivity.

The rumored strategy shift comes amid signs of slowing sales for some PS5 PC ports. Some console owners have also called for Sony to prioritize unique software over cross-platform releases. Sony has not officially confirmed any change in its exclusivity policy.

Sony may not make a definitive statement on its plans. Gamers will watch for subtle signs during the next State of Play event. With "Marvel's Wolverine" expected to appear, any disclaimers in new trailers will draw close attention.
