OmniOS has released version r151058, designated as 3.7.0. This update introduces tool updates, new features, and extended hardware support for the open-source operating system.
The release adds fast path IPv6 networking to improve throughput by bypassing the DLS layer for select traffic. Kernel MAC framework softring polling code receives fixes, and Intel IOMMU logging becomes more informative when encountering unknown remapping structures.
OmniOS r151058 Key Specifications
- Version: 3.7.0 (r151058)
- Compiler: gcc 15 (default), gcc 14 available
- ISO Size: 301 MB
- USB-DD Size: 401 MB
- Key Features: Fast path IPv6, SMB 3.1.1 GMAC signing, Bhyve transitional virtio
AES-GMAC sign and verify support enters PKCS#11, while the kernel AES implementation supports GMAC input through standard MAC interfaces. SMB 3.1.1 now supports GMAC signing with capability negotiation, and SMB workloads on ZFS run faster. Active Directory join processes also receive improvements.
Bhyve virtualization gains support for transitional virtio devices, presenting both legacy and modern interfaces simultaneously. New drivers built on I2C/SMBus and GPIO frameworks cover Intel SMBus controllers, PCA954x multiplexers, DDR4 and DDR5 SPD EEPROMs, and LM75 temperature sensors. The userland compiles with gcc 15 by default, though gcc 14 remains available.
OmniOS has deprecated the grub boot loader, OpenSSL 1.0.x and 1.1.1, Python 2, and OpenSSH GSSAPI key exchange. Version 151046 reached end-of-life, and users should upgrade to r151054 or r151058. The ISO file weighs 301 MB, and the USB-DD file is 401 MB.
