Microsoft is reversing a recent user interface change for the Copilot button within its Office applications. The company introduced a floating Dynamic Action Button that drew significant criticism from users. Microsoft has now implemented a rollback to address this feedback and restore previous functionality.
Users can now right-click the floating button to move it back to the ribbon interface.
Users can interact with the button through new controls. Right-clicking the element allows them to move it back into the ribbon interface. They can also restore the caret menu view using specific options within the application. The docked caret view will remain locked throughout an entire document session instead of reverting to a floating position each time.
Microsoft plans to deploy these changes starting next week for web versions of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Desktop updates are expected to follow this initial rollout. The exact timeline for desktop releases remains uncertain since the company only indicated that they will likely arrive after the web updates.
This adjustment reflects Microsoft's response to direct user feedback regarding application interface design. The company prioritized restoring familiar navigation patterns over maintaining the new floating button layout. Office applications continue to integrate Copilot features while adapting to user preferences for consistent tool placement.
Microsoft has not confirmed specific dates for the desktop update rollout. The vendor emphasized that web updates will begin next week as the primary deployment phase.
