Microsoft Advanced Shader Delivery Cuts Forza Horizon 6 Load Times by 95%

Microsoft has expanded its Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) technology to 11 PCs with discrete GPUs. The feature is now available in public preview for Forza Horizon 6 through the Xbox app or Microsoft Store.

ASD reduces shader compilation from 90 seconds to 4 seconds.

ASD reduces shader compilation time from 90 seconds to 4 seconds in Forza Horizon 6, a 95% improvement. The test system used an AMD Radeon RX 7600 GPU and AMD 7 5800 CPU. The technology supports AMD RDNA 3, RDNA 3.5, and RDNA 4 architectures. It requires Windows 11 version 24H2 or later and the latest AMD Adrenalin drivers.

The public preview is available now globally. Users must be enrolled in the Xbox Insider Program and use the Xbox app or Microsoft Store to access the feature.

ASD eliminates the need for just-in-time shader compilation during gameplay, reducing shader stutter. Microsoft partnered with the Forza Horizon 6 team to implement the feature at launch. The technology is currently limited to AMD GPUs, with no support for hardware yet.

Microsoft has not confirmed when ASD will support additional GPU vendors. The feature remains in public preview, and the company has not announced a timeline for general availability.
