METRO 2039 Gameplay Trailer Debuts, February 2027 Launch Confirmed

4A Games and Deep Silver revealed the first gameplay trailer and release date for METRO 2039 at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026. The new installment launches in February 2027 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.

New protagonist and linear design revealed

Set in 2039, 25 years after nuclear war, the story follows a new protagonist called The Stranger. He is a reclusive former Metro resident haunted by violent waking nightmares and forced back into the ruins of Moscow.

After the semi-open world of Metro Exodus, METRO 2039 returns to linear, atmospheric, tension-heavy design. Stealth remains a major part of the game, blending stealth, violence, immersion, and horror.

Deadlier surface and ray tracing expected

The surface is said to be deadlier than ever, thawing and irradiated. The developers hinted at new dangers both above ground and underground.

4A Games uses its proprietary 4A Engine to build the game. Given that Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition extensively adopted ray tracing, METRO 2039 is expected to support ray tracing as well.

METRO 2039 launches in February 2027 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. The game was previously announced for Winter, so it should launch before February 21.
