Primate Labs has released Geekbench 7, the next major version of its widely used cross-platform CPU benchmark. This update matters because it resets the scoring baseline, meaning all future scores will look different from previous generations. Users comparing new hardware against older benchmarks will need to account for this shift in reference points.

Benchmark resets scoring baseline and adds dedicated media and physics workloads

The software now uses an 7 7700 processor in a Legion system as its new baseline reference. This replaces the Core i7-12700 that served as the standard for Geekbench 6. This adjustment allows the benchmark to better represent the performance capabilities of modern processors.

Geekbench 7 introduces several new workloads to test specific modern tasks. The update adds dedicated tests for Photo Editor, Game Physics, Video Encoder, Audio Encoder, and Video Decoder. The Game Physics workload specifically utilizes the Jolt Physics engine to measure simulation performance.

The tool also updates its text processing capabilities to use Python 3.13 instead of the older Python 3.9. Only eight workloads now contribute to the multi-core score, including File Compression, Photo Library, Clang, and Ray Tracer. Other tests like Navigation, HTML5 Browser, and PDF Viewer are restricted to the single-core section.

Primate Labs published the installers, documentation, and public results directly through its own servers. The public database already contains results from Apple M-series, AMD, and Intel processors. The company offered information under embargo but never sent the promised materials before going public.
