The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel Launches Late 2028 as Xbox Project Helix Flagship

The legendary fantasy franchise is finally getting another title with an official name, as confirmed by Bethesda Game Studios. The Elder Scrolls VI will be called: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. While fans are excited to finally have an official name after years of speculation, there's a harsh reminder for anyone hoping to get back into Tamriel anytime soon.

Bethesda confirms title and late 2028 release window for next Xbox generation

There's still over 2 years until Bethesda releases the title, making the earliest possible release window to be late 2028. Looking at this release window suggests that this title could easily become the flagship title for Microsoft's next generation of consoles (Project Helix).

Along with confirming the official name, the studio also gave a small glimpse into the story with a quote from Yazar, the Moth Priest for High Queen Iradne in Hammerfell. The Moth Priest explains a vision he had of a shimmering scroll and how a future is lost/undone. Based on the quote, it sounds like the game will be very much about Elder Scrolls Artifact lore and the mysteries of the artifacts' powers.

The quote was made in 4E 206, only 5 years after The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. That doesn't mean that's where the game will take place.

The question of development progress is the main focus for fans, especially in light of recent industry changes. Xbox recently had layoffs that slightly shrunk the Bethesda team, leading to legitimate questions about potential delays or changes to scope. Despite the team changes, the title is still moving forward to meet the projected 2028 release window.

The title is one of the big focus pillars for Bethesda, as it'll be a big part of the new generation of hardware. It's all about delivering the definitive title for the next generation of consoles.

You can definitely expect to wait a long time to get into the world of Sentinel. Given the multiple years of development coupled with recent team changes, the release date is still not locked in. As for those wanting more details on the game lore, it'll be a wait for more narrative details to drop as the game develops. Now it's just a matter of seeing how Bethesda will navigate their ambitious plans with what they're working with at the moment.
