Clear Shell Kits for Nintendo 3DS XL and New 3DS Now Available

KLRR and Raretro Consoles have launched clear shell kits for the Nintendo 3DS XL and New 3DS. The kits are now available globally.

Kits require extensive installation experience

The project took two years to develop and was self-funded without crowdfunding. The kits offer replacement housings for both the 3DS XL and New 3DS. Installation requires extensive prior experience.

The 3DS XL kit is rumored to cost 100 USD (about $100). The New 3DS kit is rumored to cost $170.

KLRR stated that the project was created to answer a long-standing request from the handheld modding community for clear, functional, fully assembled shell kits for the Nintendo 3DS line. Transparent shells have been available for systems like the Game Boy and Nintendo Switch, but the 3DS family posed a challenge due to its hinge design, layered assembly, tight tolerances, and complex internal layout.

KLRR has not confirmed official pricing for the kits.
