Chuwi Apologizes for Shipping CoreBook X with Wrong Ryzen Processor, Offers Full Refunds

Chuwi has apologized for shipping its CoreBook X and CoreBook Plus laptops with the wrong processor. The company says a production error led to the mix-up.

Chuwi blames production error for CPU mix-up

The laptops were advertised with a 5 7430U processor, a Zen 3 chip. However, they actually contained a Ryzen 5 5500U, which is based on the older Zen 2 architecture. Both are six-core, twelve-thread parts with a 15W TDP, but the 5500U has lower clock speeds and half the L3 cache.

Chuwi is offering full refunds to affected customers in China. The company claims the issue was a production error, but reports indicate that firmware-level modifications were used to disguise the processor identity, which has raised questions about the explanation.

has stated it had no knowledge of the fake CPUs. According to Tom's Hardware, the performance difference between the two processors is typically around 10%, and can reach up to 20% on this laptop. Chuwi has not confirmed the exact number of units affected or the timeline for the refunds.
