ASUS ROG has introduced a new GPU power architecture at COMPUTEX 2026 in Taipei. The design aims to solve persistent overheating and melting issues with power connectors. It uses a higher voltage to reduce heat generation in cables and terminals.
Higher voltage reduces heat in cables
The architecture relies on a custom power supply unit and a 12V-2×6 cable. This single interface can deliver up to 1200W. The system is built for high-end graphics cards that demand more power.
Higher voltage means lower current for the same power, which reduces resistive heating. ASUS says this directly addresses the melting problems seen with 12VHPWR connectors. The design improves safety by keeping cables and connectors cooler.
Smart detection ensures compatibility
The architecture includes 48V/12V smart detection. It automatically switches between 48V and traditional 12V platforms. This ensures compatibility with existing power supplies and graphics cards.
ASUS demonstrated the technology at its COMPUTEX booth. The company has not announced pricing or availability. The architecture is still a showcase, not a retail product.
The 48V approach is a departure from the standard 12V used in most PC power systems. It could set a new direction for GPU power delivery if adopted widely. For now, it remains a proof of concept from ASUS ROG.
