SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk is pursuing a massive semiconductor manufacturing initiative called TeraFab in Texas. ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet confirmed direct discussions with Musk regarding the project. The venture aims to establish one of the largest chip production operations ever attempted.
Elon Musk pursues massive semiconductor manufacturing initiative called TeraFab in Texas with ASML CEO confirmation
Intel has joined the effort and will contribute its 14A process technology for the facility. SpaceX filed paperwork for a $55 billion semiconductor plant located in Grimes County, Texas. ASML anticipates producing its first logic chips using High NA EUV lithography systems within months.

Musk targets total expansion costs reaching $119 billion USD (about $119) for the project. Fouquet compared the urgency of building domestic chip capacity to creating a garden in a desert without food access.
The initiative responds to growing global demand for artificial intelligence computing power and semiconductor manufacturing capacity. Export controls on advanced chips further drive the need for independent production capabilities within major technology hubs.
