Apple and Intel have signed a preliminary agreement for Intel to manufacture some chips used in Apple devices. The deal follows more than a year of negotiations, with a formal agreement reached in recent months. Bloomberg first reported the talks on Tuesday.
Deal follows over a year of negotiations
It is unclear which Apple products will use Intel chips. Ming-Chi Kuo reported last fall that Apple and Intel were exploring collaboration on M-series chips for Mac and iPad, with production possibly starting as early as 2027. Analyst Jeff Pu noted in December that the partnership could extend to iPhone chip production by 2028.

The US government played a key role in the deal. According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, President Trump personally supported the Intel acquisition during a meeting with Tim Cook at the White House.
Apple has not confirmed which products will use Intel chips or when production will begin. The company has not commented on the reported timeline for Mac, iPad, or iPhone chip production.
