Google has announced Android 17, a major update focused on creative tools and social media integration. The new OS introduces features for content creators, including professional video capabilities and enhanced Instagram support.
Screen Reactions and Smart Enhance AI debut
Key additions include Screen Reactions, which records the screen and front-facing camera simultaneously. Ultra HDR photo capture and playback are now supported on Instagram, along with Night Sight for low-light photography. Instagram is also fully optimized for Android tablets. A new Smart Enhance AI tool upscales photos and videos with a single tap. Sound Separation isolates different audio tracks to reduce background noise. For professional video, Android 17 introduces the APV format, co-developed with Samsung, which delivers high-quality video with less storage.
Android 17 will first roll out to Pixel devices later this summer.
The update also brings Adobe Premiere Pro to Android for editing YouTube Shorts. The APV format is a collaboration with Samsung, and the update will be available on devices such as the Pixel, Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, and vivo X300 Ultra.
