Ampax has launched a modular power bank on Kickstarter that uses replaceable 21700 batteries. The design allows users to swap in fresh cells when the battery runs out, potentially reducing the need to carry multiple power banks.

Replaceable batteries offer extended use

The power bank holds two 21700 batteries and offers a total capacity of 10,000mAh (37 Wh). It features one USB-A port and one USB-C port, with a maximum combined output of 22.5 watts. Both ports can charge devices simultaneously.

The Ampax power bank is available on Kickstarter for 36 USD (about $36.00). A pledge of 50 USD (about $50.00) includes a compatible battery charger for four cells. Shipping is expected to begin in August 2025.

Similar modular power banks are already available from other online retailers. The use of 21700 batteries, common in flashlights and other devices, may appeal to enthusiasts who already own spare cells.

Ampax has not confirmed a retail launch beyond the crowdfunding campaign. As with any Kickstarter project, backers assume financial risk.
