AMD Zen 6 12-Core CPU Matches 16-Core Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 in Multi-Threaded Performance

AMD Zen 6 12- core CPU matches Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 performance. Flagship 24- core Olympic Ridge hits 20K Cinebench scores on AM5 socket in 2027.

is preparing its next-generation processors, codenamed Olympic Ridge, for a 2027 launch. This shift matters because the new Zen 6 architecture promises to deliver flagship multi-threaded performance with significantly fewer cores than current models. Buyers looking for high-end productivity workstations can expect a more efficient core count in the upcoming generation.

AMD Olympic Ridge chips use TSMC N2P process for 2027 release

The new processors will sit on the existing AM5 socket, ensuring backward compatibility for current motherboard owners. AMD plans to build these chips using TSMC's N2P process node. The TSMC N2P process is critical for managing the thermal and power demands of the new architecture.

A single Zen 6 chip design (CCD) will feature 12 cores. The flagship Olympic Ridge models will combine two of these CCDs for a total of 24 cores. These chips will also support up to 288 MB of combined 3D V-cache and bLLC memory.

Performance leaks suggest a 12-core Zen 6 processor will match the multi-threaded scores of the current 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D2. The dual-CCD flagship version is projected to reach approximately 20,000 points in Cinebench multi-threaded rendering. We have previously covered the launch of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, which offers a different caching strategy for comparison.

The 1usmus tool creator shared these projections on social media, noting that the new architecture gets surprisingly close to existing high-end scores. He mentioned that he has missed the period of leaks and speculation surrounding these upcoming chips. The release window remains set for 2027, with no pricing details confirmed yet.
