AMD and Intel revealed their next-generation server processor sockets at Computex 2026. These new interfaces define the physical foundation for upcoming high-performance computing platforms. The announcements highlight a shift toward extreme core counts and power delivery in data centers.

New interfaces support up to 256 cores and 1,400W power delivery for enterprise workloads
AMD showcased its SP7 socket, which will support the sixth generation of EPYC processors known as Venice. This platform targets configurations with up to 256 cores per chip. Intel presented the LGA9324-1 socket for its Xeon Diamond Rapids processors. That hardware is scheduled to launch in 2027 and supports up to 192 cores.
The SP7 design reportedly accommodates 16 DDR6 memory channels. It also handles peak power consumption of up to 1,400 watts according to rumors. Intel's LGA9324-1 socket features exactly 9,324 pins. This interface provides PCIe Gen6 lanes for the Diamond Rapids chips.
Both sockets represent significant engineering steps for AI server infrastructure. The AMD platform focuses on massive core density and high power tolerance. The Intel solution emphasizes pin count and next-generation I/O speeds. These components will likely drive the performance of future enterprise workloads.
