's Adrenalin graphics driver version 26.5.1 has introduced a bug that breaks the Zero RPM fan feature. Users on Reddit report that after a monitor wakes from sleep, the Zero RPM function remains active, causing the GPU fans to stay off even during gaming.

Users report fans remain off after wake

At least five Reddit users have described the issue. The bug can cause GPU temperatures to rise quickly, potentially leading to thermal throttling or hardware damage, according to Tom's Hardware. Workarounds include rebooting the system, performing a clean driver install using DDU, or rolling back to version 26.3.1.

AMD has not acknowledged the bug or provided a solution. The subsequent Adrenalin 26.5.2 driver does not mention a fix for this problem. Users affected by the issue are advised to use one of the known workarounds until AMD addresses it.

The Zero RPM feature is designed to stop the GPU fans under low load for silent operation. The bug causes the fans to remain off when they should spin up, posing a risk during demanding tasks. AMD has not confirmed when a permanent fix will be available.
