Plex is raising the price of its Lifetime Plex Pass subscription. The current rate of $250 will increase to $750 starting July 1, 2026. This change represents a $500 hike for new customers purchasing the lifetime tier.
Existing subscribers retain current pricing under grandfathering policy
The media server software offers premium features including remote streaming and offline downloads. Existing Lifetime Pass holders retain their current pricing under a grandfathering policy. New buyers must complete their purchase by June 30 to secure the existing rate before the increase takes effect.

Plex states that the updated pricing reflects the real ongoing value of its personal media software. The company plans to use the additional revenue to fund future development and maintenance of the platform.
The subscription model faces scrutiny as competitors like Jellyfin and Emby provide similar functionality with open-source or flexible pricing structures. Plex has not announced any plans to revisit this pricing structure, suggesting the new rate will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
