Canonical has opened the upgrade path from Ubuntu 25.10 to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. Users can now upgrade through the graphical Software Updater. The move comes ahead of the July 2026 end-of-life date for Ubuntu 25.10, after which it will stop receiving security updates.
Graphical upgrade path now open
The upgrade was delayed due to bugs that uninstalled important packages. Canonical has since resolved those issues. For users on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, the upgrade path to 26.04 LTS will open in August, following the release of Ubuntu 26.04.1.
Graphical upgrades are available globally starting now, according to OMG! Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 25.10 users who do not upgrade before July will lose security support. Canonical recommends upgrading to 26.04 LTS to remain protected. The company has not confirmed whether an offline upgrade method will be provided for those who miss the deadline.
