A custom build PC using the INWIN 909 case has set a new standard for what a wooden computer chassis can be. This build is significant because it demonstrates that you can push the envelope with heavy material modifications and extreme cable management without compromising the efficiency of cooling. Redditor u/mithiral67 has spent 7 years refining this build, transforming a regular tower case into a permanent fixture of furniture.

Seven-year project features walnut exterior and zero visible cables

The builder took the INWIN 909 case and stripped it down to replace all the regular panels with custom walnut wood. The outside is made of walnut wood, giving it a warm, furniture-like look compared to typical plastic computer cases in black or white. The walnut material wraps around various parts of the case, resulting in a cohesive exterior that completely conceals the internal components.

INWIN 909 Custom Build Specifications

  • Case Model: INWIN 909
  • Exterior Material: Custom Walnut Wood
  • Cooling Solution: Custom Water Loops with Basement Radiator
  • Cable Management: Zero Visible Cables

Looking at the primary chamber, you won't see a single cable in sight. All power and data cables have been expertly managed to run out of sight to preserve the clean aesthetics. To achieve such a cable-less interior required thoughtful design and custom-shaped channels cut into the walnut panels to hide away all the cabling.

The most unique aspect of the cooling approach is that it completely removes heat dissipation from the desk environment. Custom water cooling loops for the CPU and GPU redirect the tubing through the desk structure. The tubes are directed downward into the basement where a large 4-fan radiator is used for heat dissipation. By routing the water loops down to the basement radiator, it ensures the desk area remains cool and silent.

This build originated in 2019 when wooden PC modding wasn't nearly as prevalent in the enthusiast community. Today, the build has been transformed into a permanent fixture that barely allows for any future additions or upgrades. The permanence of this build comes with the territory of creating such an integrated visual and thermal experience.
