MSI launches first air cooler with built-in digital display for around $82

has unveiled a new air-based CPU cooler that features real time system monitoring embedded in the heatsink. Dubbed the MPG COREFROZR AP15, the new air cooler features a digital display embedded on the dual-tower design that shows the real time CPU, GPU, and RAM statistics right on the cooling unit. The embedded digital display is quite significant since gamers or users working on intensive tasks won't have to alt-tab out to their monitoring software to track performance statistics. This could come in handy for those users who like a clean desktop and would love to track their temperature stats without cluttering up their display.

MSI's new dual-tower cooler includes a top-mounted screen for real-time hardware monitoring

The new air cooler from MSI is aimed at high-end desktops and is specifically designed for X3D CPUs that are prone to heat congestion. The asymmetric design ensures that the heatpipes aren't interfering with memory slots and even allow users to install full-height DDR5 RAM modules without any airflow restrictions. The cooler includes a 120mm fan on the front that can run up to 2000RPM and a middle fan that has a max speed of 1600RPM.

Specifications

  • Cooling Type: Dual-tower air cooler
  • Heatpipes: 6x 6mm composite heatpipes
  • Display: DIGI-DISPLAY screen for CPU/GPU/RAM stats
  • Compatibility: LGA 1851/1700, AMD AM5/AM4
  • Warranty: 5 years

These two fans are designed for a gradient airflow, reducing resonance. The cooler is compatible with Intel LGA 1851 and 1700 sockets along with AMD AM5 and AM4 platforms.

The new MSI MPG COREFROZR AP15 air cooler features six 6mm composite heatpipes and pure copper base with micro-convex mirror finish. The heatsink features 102 fins and has a height of 168mm which should work with most of the mid-tower chassis. MSI claims that the gradient airflow with dual fans actually makes it physically impossible for the resonance problem to occur like traditional twin fans. The digital display panel on the top shows real-time temperature, usage percentage, and frequency for three hardware channels at a time.

MSI further claims that the asymmetric heatpipe design means users can install 4 sticks of high profile DDR5 RAM without downclocking the memory. This is a huge relief for those users who like to go with big air cooling units on new motherboards. MSI offers a standard 5-year warranty on the product. We've been keeping a keen eye on the MPG COREFROZR AP15 and this is the first time MSI is adding a screen to their air cooling units.

The new MSI MPG COREFROZR AP15 is available today via JD.com in China with a price of 549 CNY (~$82.07). There could be a rebate of 50 CNY (~$7.47) during the Double 11 shopping festival (subject to platform promotions). The starting price makes it a pretty accessible product for those users who want to have advanced monitoring features in a traditional air cooling setup.
