Mac os 27 Golden gate by Apple is now available on Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme with the new project called 'Snapintosh'. This portage is significant because it demonstrates that Apple's Operating System is viable on an ARM-based Windows laptop. Enabling the possibility of cross-platform software compatibility. Bringing the opportunity to test the mac os on non Apple silicon for Developers and Hardware enthusiasts.
Experimental Snapintosh project runs Apple OS on Qualcomm hardware
Snapintosh utilizes the ARM64 Compatibility and EL2 hypervisor in order to run Apple's standard kernel on Qualcomm cpu's. Currently it is only supported on the ASUS Zenbook A16 UX3607OA that has a Snapdragon X2E-96-100 Chipset. Indicating the vast engineering that is involved in order to make Apple software compatible with Qualcomm.
- OS Version: macOS 27 Golden Gate
- Processor: Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme
- Supported Device: ASUS Zenbook A16 UX3607OA
- GPU: Adreno X2-90
- Architecture: ARM64
Hardware accelerated via custom Metal drivers for the Adreno X2-90 GPU. It responds to keyboard inputs, track pad gestures and the internal nvme storage. You can run the laptop's 2880×1800 display at 60hz standard which is the refresh rate of the display in the experimental environment.
To boot into it requires a secondary mac running MacOS 27 to transfer the boot components using USB-C each time you boot up. So it's not practical to use this as a daily Laptop and consistent daily use. It is specifically stated that the Developer does not currently support audio, Bluetooth, Cameras, sleep/wake, the 120hz of the panel.
Miguel C uploaded the project to the public GitHub repository for worldwide use. You can download the code, however there is still inconsistency in how well the interface responds while in use. We know for sure that the core kernel is running, but the usage is limited to only tech testing and not general consumption.
