Intel kicks off equipment installation for its new fab facility, Fab 62, in Arizona. This milestone is crucial because it signifies that Intel is making tangible progress in establishing the infrastructure necessary to manufacture their next-gen processors. This expansion aligns with Intel's ambition to reclaim process dominance in the semiconductor industry.
Intel starts equipment installation at its sixth Arizona fab, targeting 2028 for 18A and 14A production
Intel's Fab 62 facility is located in the Okatie region of Arizona. It will mark Intel's sixth major semiconductor manufacturing plant in Arizona. Installation of production equipment is underway at the Fab 62 site.
Fab 62 Specifications
- Location: Arizona, Okatie园区
- Construction Status: Framework complete, equipment installation started
- Target Production Nodes: 18A, 18A-P, 14A
- Operational Target: Mass production by end of 2028
The framework structure of the facility has already been established. The site is part of Intel's domestic manufacturing initiative.
The Fab 62 will be capable of handling advanced process nodes, such as Intel 18A, 18A-P, and 14A. Intel is targeting the end of 2028 as the timeline for when the factory will commence mass production. However, Intel has not disclosed the exact date when mass production will commence.
Although Fab 62 is a possible candidate for Intel 14A manufacturing, Intel has not yet officially named it as the primary location for 14A production. Adjacent Fab 52 is currently in operation and manufacturing chips with the Intel 18A process. We've previously reported about Intel 18A Yield Hits 80% in a foundry ramp for Panther Lake. This indicates the continued focus on these advanced process nodes.
Intel has confirmed that equipment installation is currently taking place at Fab 62, with an expected operational date set for late 2028. The facility will be used for manufacturing 18A, 18A-P, and 14A chips. This infrastructure development is part of Intel's long-term manufacturing plan.
