The European Union has agreed to amend its comprehensive AI regulation law. The provisional agreement was reached between EU member states and the European Parliament.
Ban on AI-generated sexual images starts December 2
A ban on AI generating sexually explicit images without permission will take effect on December 2. Mandatory watermarking of generated content also becomes mandatory from that date. The application of rules for high-risk AI systems, covering areas like biometrics, critical infrastructure, and law enforcement, has been postponed from August 2, 2026 to December 2, 2027.
The amendments adjust the timeline for compliance with the AI Act. The original schedule for high-risk systems has been pushed back by over a year.
The agreement was reported by Reuters. The exact details of the amendments remain to be finalized.
