HP has updated the Star Book 16 lineup in China with a new configuration that targets budget-conscious buyers. This addition gives shoppers a specific entry point for a high-refresh-rate display without paying for dual-channel memory upgrades. These regional configuration updates provide insight into how manufacturers balance cost and performance in the mid-range laptop segment.

New single-channel RAM config targets budget buyers
The new model centers on the AMD Ryzen 7 255H processor paired with 16GB of DDR5 RAM running at 5600MT/s. HP configured this memory in single-channel mode, which may impact integrated graphics performance compared to dual-channel setups. The system includes a 1TB PCIe SSD for storage and retains the 16-inch 2.5K display with a 240Hz refresh rate.
Specifications
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 255H
- RAM: 16GB DDR5 5600MT/s (Single Channel)
- Storage: 1TB PCIe SSD
- Display: 16-inch, 2.5K, 240Hz

Physical dimensions remain consistent with previous Star Book 16 variants. The chassis weighs 1.64 kg and measures 14.7 mm in thickness. Power comes from a 68Whr battery supported by a 100W charger. Connectivity options include two full-function USB-C ports and an HDMI port on the left side, plus a USB-A port and 3.5mm audio jack on the right.
The new configuration is available in China starting August 21, 2024. HP lists the price at 6899 CNY (around $1,024).
