Resident Evil Requiem Hits 8 Million Sales as Capcom Posts Record Quarter

CAPCOM posted its strongest financial results in recent memory, driven by a surge in software sales that reshaped its quarterly outlook. The company reported net sales of 70.41 billion yen, which translates to approximately $430.1 million, marking a 54.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Operating profit climbed even faster, jumping 66.9 percent to 41.05 billion yen, or roughly $250.7 million. This financial momentum highlights how specific title releases can directly impact corporate health in the gaming sector.

Software sales surge drives operating profit up 67 percent

The primary engine behind this growth is Resident Evil Requiem, which has now sold 8 million cumulative units globally. CAPCOM credited active pricing promotions for accelerating adoption among new players who might have otherwise waited for a discount. The title joins a growing list of successful franchises that continue to drive digital content revenue for the publisher. This sustained sales performance demonstrates the enduring market strength of the Resident Evil brand across multiple platforms.

Beyond the flagship horror series, CAPCOM reported significant success with its other major intellectual properties. The new IP Pragmata surpassed 2.5 million units sold, establishing a foothold for the studio's latest creative direction. Devil May Cry 5 also reached a major milestone, surpassing 14 million units sold after benefiting from a launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 and a new Netflix anime season. These numbers reflect a healthy portfolio that does not rely solely on a single franchise for revenue.

The company also saw a substantial increase in sales of its older catalog titles, which reached 21.26 million units. This figure significantly exceeds the 13.36 million units sold during the same period in the previous year, indicating strong demand for legacy games. Digital Contents unit sales nearly doubled to 23.81 million from 14.16 million in the prior year, further emphasizing the shift toward digital distribution. These metrics suggest that players are increasingly engaging with both new releases and established classics through digital channels.

Looking ahead, CAPCOM announced the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion, which is scheduled for release in 2027. This future content will likely serve as another major revenue driver for the company in the coming years.
