Mainline kernel update enables full color and brightness customization
The new driver, named amd_halo_led, targets the Ryzen AI Halo hardware and is submitted to the platform-drivers-x86.git for-next branch. It enables fine-grained management of the built-in LED strip, moving beyond simple power state indicators to full aesthetic customization. This change integrates the hardware's lighting features directly into the mainline Linux ecosystem.
The driver exposes a sysfs interface at /sys/class/leds/amd_halo:multicolor:status/multi_intensity for adjusting brightness and color. Users can compile the feature using the AMD_HALO_LED Kconfig option during the kernel build process. This technical setup allows for precise control over the multi-color LED status light through standard Linux file system commands.
Previously, the mainline Linux kernel could not control the device's built-in LED strip, and users could only toggle the light on and off in custom distributions.
