SpaceX is preparing two new Starlink dish terminals: a slimmer Standard model and a Mini Rugged version with a built-in battery. Elon Musk confirmed the terminals are already in production during a recent briefing. The company expects to release them globally in the second or third quarter of 2026.
Firmware analysis reveals device strings
The Standard rev5 terminal shrinks the current Standard design to a size closer to the existing backpack-friendly Mini. The Mini Rugged, identified by firmware string MINI1_RUGGED_PROD1, adds a built-in battery and USB-C charging. University of Victoria researchers found firmware code referencing battery and USB-C power sources.
Firmware analysis by Oleg Kutkov revealed device strings for both new terminals, including 'rev5' and 'MINI1_RUGGED_PROD1'. The current Mini requires an external power source, so the new Mini Rugged aims to enable off-grid use. Musk said the new terminals are made in much higher volume than current ones.
Pricing details have not been announced. The new terminals are expected to launch globally in Q2–Q3 2026. SpaceX may time the launch with its long-anticipated IPO, but that timing remains unconfirmed.
