YouTube is bringing back its direct messaging feature for video sharing in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. The update allows users to send videos, Shorts, and live streams directly through a revamped inbox within the mobile app.

Revamped inbox lets users share videos with seven day invite links

The feature requires users to be at least 18 years old and signed into a verified channel on the latest version of the YouTube mobile application. Brand Accounts cannot access direct messaging when the rollout begins.

Users can generate invite links to share content with friends or contacts. These links expire exactly seven days after creation, limiting how long shared content remains accessible through the invitation system.

The update targets specific regions and enforces age restrictions to comply with platform safety guidelines. The mobile app version requirement ensures users receive the necessary software updates to use the inbox functionality.
