Microsoft Teams introduces an Efficiency Mode designed to conserve system resources on devices with limited RAM and CPU capacity. The feature targets users running older or low-spec hardware, allowing smoother operation by dynamically adjusting resource allocation during active sessions.
Teams automatically adjusts video quality and reduces load times on older hardware to maintain stability during active sessions.
The update modifies how the application handles video calls and background processes. When enabled, Teams automatically reduces video quality based on real-time PC performance metrics. This adjustment helps maintain stability without requiring manual user intervention for basic settings.
Efficiency Mode is enabled by default on eligible devices but can be disabled through Settings > General > Never use efficiency mode. The system monitors CPU and memory usage to determine when to apply resource-saving measures. Static images replace waiting states in the messages pane, reducing load times during chat interactions.
Microsoft has not yet defined specific eligibility criteria for which devices qualify for this feature. The rollout was originally scheduled for early or mid-May but has been delayed until late May. Users may begin seeing the update starting today as part of a phased deployment.
Microsoft Teams Efficiency Mode targets devices with limited RAM and CPU to improve performance under constrained conditions. This update introduces automatic video quality adjustments based on PC resource conditions, marking a shift toward performance optimization. The feature is enabled by default on eligible devices but can be manually disabled in Settings if users prefer not to use it.
