Wizards of the Coast Cancels D&D Game From God of War Director's Studio

Wizards of the Coast has canceled a single-player action adventure game developed by Giant Skull. The studio, founded in 2024 by Stig Asmussen, received greenlight for the project less than a year ago. Wizards of the Coast terminated development earlier this year during a periodic review process.

Publisher terminates development after periodic review process

Asmussen directed God of War III and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order & Survivor before establishing Giant Skull. A company spokesperson stated that the publisher assesses concepts at every stage of development. The decision came after reviewing an early concept from Asmussen's team.

Wizards of the Coast expressed respect for Asmussen and his team while confirming the cancellation. The publisher emphasized its ongoing relationship with the studio despite ending this specific project. Asmussen confirmed that operations continue normally at Giant Skull and he is currently discussing publishing deals with other companies.

The improved motion model mentioned by Asmussen will likely be integrated into future projects at the studio. It remains unclear whether the canceled Dungeons & Dragons game concept will survive under a different publisher or brand.
