Remedy Entertainment's CEO believes the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI release could boost the entire console gaming market rather than hurt other titles. Jean-Charles Gaudechon shared this view in an interview with The Game Business. He remains confident that Remedy's own game, Control Resonant, will still launch in 2026 despite overlapping with GTA VI.
CEO sees GTA VI as market booster
Control Resonant is the next major title from Remedy, the studio behind Alan Wake and Control. The game continues the supernatural story of the Federal Bureau of Control. Gaudechon aims to maximize the sales potential of both the Alan Wake and Control franchises.
Remedy has partnered with Annapurna for film and TV adaptations of its properties. Annapurna is also co-financing Control Resonant. This cross-media strategy is intended to boost the reach and revenue of Remedy's games.
Remedy prioritizes franchise potential
Gaudechon expressed disappointment that previous titles like Alan Wake and Control did not sell as well as expected. He stated, "It's a pity; I think Alan Wake should have sold more. Control should have sold more, too." He emphasized that maximizing the potential of existing franchises is a priority before expanding further.
The company recently faced a setback with FBC: Firebreak, which had weak sales and led to a $17.4 million impairment charge. Despite this, Remedy is pushing forward with Control Resonant and its broader multimedia plans.
Control Resonant remains on track for a global release in 2026. The game is confirmed to launch that year, according to the company. No specific release date or platform details have been announced yet.
