PCI-SIG has released version 0.5 of the PCIe 8.0 specification draft. The draft was published on May 1, 2024.
The new draft incorporates all member feedback received since version 0.3, which was released in September 2023. PCIe 8.0 supports a raw bit rate of 256.0 GT/s. In an x16 configuration, it achieves bidirectional bandwidth of 1.0 TB/s.
The final version 1.0 of PCIe 8.0 is still planned for release in 2028.
The specification aims to evaluate new connector technology and meet latency, error, and reliability goals. It also seeks to maintain backward compatibility, enhance bandwidth through protocol improvements, and reduce power consumption.
PCI-SIG has not confirmed the exact launch window for the final specification beyond the 2028 target.
