OpenAI has announced GPT-5.5-Cyber, a new model designed for specialized cybersecurity work. The model is built on GPT-5.5 and is now available in a limited preview for defenders responsible for securing critical infrastructure.

GPT-5.5-Cyber offers more permissive behavior for authorized red teaming, penetration testing, and controlled exploitability validation. For most organizations, OpenAI recommends GPT-5.5 with Trusted Access for Cyber (TAC). Starting June 1, 2026, individual developers using TAC must enable Advanced Account Security.
The limited preview is available globally as of April 30, 2026. OpenAI is working with security vendors across discovery, development, detection, response, and network enforcement.
Sam Altman said the company is starting rollout of GPT-5.5-Cyber to critical cyber defenders in the next few days. OpenAI has not confirmed a broader release timeline.
