NVIDIA issued a critical security update for legacy graphics hardware, closing vulnerabilities that could expose older systems to significant risk. This release matters because these Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta GPUs no longer receive standard Game Ready drivers, leaving security patches as the only active support channel. Users operating these older cards must install this update to maintain a secure baseline through October 2028.
Critical security patches extend support for older Maxwell and Pascal GPUs
The GeForce 582.78 driver targets architectures that have reached end-of-life for new game optimizations. It covers the Maxwell-based GTX 700 series, the Pascal GTX 10 series, and select TITAN models. This ensures that desktop and notebook owners with hardware from these generations retain essential protection against newly discovered exploits.
- Supported Architectures: Maxwell, Pascal, Volta
- Supported Desktop GPUs: GTX 745, GTX 750, GTX 750 Ti, GTX 950-980 Ti, GTX 1050-1080 Ti, GT 1030, GT 1010, TITAN V, TITAN Xp, TITAN X, GTX TITAN X
- Supported Notebook GPUs: GTX 900M series, GTX 10 series, MX110 through MX350
- OS Support: Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 11
- Vulnerabilities Addressed: 114 total (98 display driver, 16 vGPU)
The update addresses 114 total vulnerabilities across NVIDIA's GPU software stack. Of these, 98 flaws affect the display driver while 16 impact vGPU software. The severity breakdown includes one Critical issue, 76 High-severity issues, and 37 Medium-severity issues. The Critical CVE-2026-47574 carries a CVSS score of 9.9 but affects the Linux vGPU Virtual GPU Manager rather than consumer Windows drivers.
Supported desktop GPUs include the GTX 745, GTX 750, GTX 750 Ti, and the full GTX 950 through 980 Ti range. Pascal support extends to the GTX 1050 through 1080 Ti, GT 1030, GT 1010, TITAN V, TITAN Xp, TITAN X, and GTX TITAN X. Notebook support covers the GTX 900M series, GTX 10 series, and MX110 through MX350 models. The driver is available for Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 systems.
We previously covered NVIDIA GeForce Driver 616.56 Boosts Path in our earlier Nvidia coverage, which focused on performance gains for newer hardware. This security release serves a different purpose by maintaining the integrity of older, widely deployed systems. Installing 582.78 ensures that legacy GPUs remain compliant with current security standards despite lacking new feature updates.
