Nintendo Reportedly Slashes Switch 2 Production by 33% After Weak Holiday Sales

Nintendo is reportedly planning to reduce Switch 2 production by 33 percent, from 6 million to 4 million units, effective April 2026. The production cut follows a lackluster 2025 holiday season for the console.

Production cut follows disappointing holiday season

The Switch 2 had a blockbuster opening weekend with 3.5 million units sold. The game Pokémon Pokopia sold over 2 million units in four days, providing a boost to the platform.

Nintendo may increase the Switch 2’s 450 USD (about $450) price due to rising RAM and storage chip costs. A hardware revision with a removable battery is reportedly planned for the EU market.

Bloomberg reported the production cut and potential price increase, but Nintendo has not officially confirmed these plans. The company’s exact launch window for the Switch 2 also remains unconfirmed.
