A custom hardware project named Kawaii shrinks a Nintendo Wii motherboard into a keychain-sized form factor. The device measures just 60 by 60 by 16 millimeters. It runs full GameCube games on real hardware without using emulation. Tito from Macho Nacho Productions describes it as potentially the smallest Nintendo GameCube ever made.
The build relies on an undervolted Omega-trim Wii motherboard. The system uses passive cooling through an anodized aluminum unibody heatsink. Connectivity is handled by a 12-pin magnetic pogo-pin connector similar to MagSafe. An add-on dock provides four full-size GameCube controller ports for multiplayer support.
The project is a complex custom build rather than a commercial product. YveltalGriffin of WeskMods confirmed that no full kit or step-by-step assembly guide will be available. He received prototype shells from a contributor known as Ding. The creator noted that the physical prototypes look better than the initial renders.
Performance testing reveals that the unit runs hot during gameplay. Tito reported that extended sessions with titles like Mario Kart: Double Dash require external cooling. The device operates on real Nintendo silicon to avoid the compromises of emulation. This approach preserves the original hardware experience in a highly condensed package.
YveltalGriffin has not confirmed a launch window or pricing for the Kawaii. The project remains a prototype stage with no official release date.
