Intel has launched Project Firefly to standardize laptop designs based on its Wildcat Lake processors. The initiative aims to unify motherboard and I/O configurations across multiple partners. Over 70 designs from brands including ASUS, Colorful, Honor, HP, Lenovo, Changwang, and Mingfan will be part of the first wave.
Standardized motherboard cuts size and cost
The standardization relies on a 50-pin FFC connector that enables a modular motherboard and I/O layout. The new motherboard is 5% smaller in area and uses 7% fewer components compared to previous designs. Laptops built on this platform target thin and light form factors, achieving a thickness of 1.1mm.

Pricing for the first models starts at 449 USD (about $449) for the CHUWI Unibook and around 600 USD (about $600) for the Honor X14. The laptops are expected to launch in China in May 2026.
Intel China stated that the new Core Series 3 processors, built on the Intel 18A process, deliver stronger AI performance and better energy efficiency. The company described the platform as an 'AI-powered thin and light laptop for everyone'. The Firefly Project is designed to foster system-level innovation with ecosystem partners.

WCCFTech reported the details of Intel's announcement. The company has not confirmed whether the standardized design will extend to other regions beyond China.
